Holy shit, this guy does not fuck around, not even for a single moment. Roy Buchanan comes unglued as he demonstrates the lost art of syncopation. It's hard to put this into a single category of rhythm, but it's a brilliant combination of a rag, shuffle, boogie, swing and straight up, driving, four-four rock (the drummer doesn't even vary his rhythm until the 4:27 mark). You can hear the syncopation particularly well starting at the 5:36 mark, as the beat bounces straight up and and down between the down and up beats. The B3 swipes and snare taps on the downbeat almost take over the staccato guitar on the up beats. Sounds like a steam train chugging along, brass balls straight out. Much like Nancy, his '53 Tele, they simply do not make guitarists like this anymore. No guitarist before or since has had as much a reason to pick up a guitar as this guy. Absolutely off the hook.
